Aegis Vopak Terminals Limited has strengthened its presence in India’s chemical and energy infrastructure sector after its subsidiary, Aegis Terminal (Pipavav) Limited, signed a business transfer agreement to acquire a specialised ammonia storage terminal at Pipavav Port for ₹525 crore. The transaction transfers the newly commissioned facility from promoter company Aegis Logistics Limited to the joint-venture operating entity. With a static storage capacity of 36,000 MT, the terminal will further expand Aegis Vopak Terminals’ specialised storage and handling infrastructure.

36,000 MT Ammonia Terminal Changes Hands

Aegis Terminal (Pipavav) Limited will acquire the specialised ammonia storage terminal from Aegis Logistics Limited for a total consideration of ₹525 crore. The facility, located at Pipavav Port in Gujarat, has a static storage capacity of 36,000 MT and has been transferred on a slump sale basis as a going concern. As a result, the operational subsidiary will now fully own and manage the specialised ammonia storage asset. The company plans to fund the acquisition through a balanced combination of internal accruals and debt.

Transaction Completes Planned Asset Transition

The acquisition marks the completion of a planned transition of the ammonia terminal from its developer, Aegis Logistics Limited, to Aegis Terminal (Pipavav) Limited. Importantly, the transaction formalises the framework agreement originally signed in June 2025. By transferring the asset to the operating subsidiary, Aegis Vopak Terminals can consolidate ownership and operations under its joint-venture platform. The move is expected to improve operational integration while strengthening the company’s long-term infrastructure portfolio.

Aegis Vopak Strengthens Specialised Chemical Storage Infrastructure

The addition of the 36,000 MT ammonia terminal represents a significant strategic asset for Aegis Vopak Terminals. Ammonia plays an important role across several industries, particularly in the fertiliser sector, while it is also gaining attention as a potential energy carrier in the evolving green energy ecosystem. By consolidating specialised ammonia storage infrastructure at Pipavav Port, the company further strengthens its presence in Gujarat’s port-based chemical logistics and storage sector. The asset provides Aegis Vopak with an opportunity to serve growing demand for independent ammonia storage and handling facilities.

Strong Financial Performance Supports Growth Strategy

The acquisition comes as Aegis Vopak Terminals continues to expand its infrastructure and operational capabilities. The company reported an EBITDA margin of 76.7% and 31% growth in liquid revenue during Q1 FY27, highlighting the strength of its core terminal operations. Therefore, the addition of the ammonia storage terminal aligns with the company’s strategy of expanding its portfolio of specialised and high-value storage assets.

Long-Term Growth Opportunity in Ammonia Infrastructure

The acquisition is expected to enhance the company’s long-term asset base while creating opportunities for stable and recurring revenue as commercial operations scale up. Unlike conventional commodity businesses, specialised terminal infrastructure can generate relatively predictable revenue streams through storage, handling and related logistics services. As a result, the ammonia terminal could strengthen revenue visibility and support long-term cash flow generation. The facility positions Aegis Vopak Terminals to benefit from demand growth linked to India’s fertiliser sector as well as emerging opportunities associated with the green ammonia and clean energy transition.

Strategic Move Strengthens Pipavav Port Presence

The transfer of the 36,000 MT ammonia storage terminal marks an important step in Aegis Vopak Terminals’ infrastructure expansion strategy. The transaction completes the planned shift from promoter-led asset development to subsidiary-led operations while consolidating a specialised chemical storage asset within the company’s operating portfolio. As reported by sahi.com, the Pipavav terminal is expected to support Aegis Vopak Terminals’ growth in specialised chemical and gas storage, strengthen its position in Gujarat’s port infrastructure ecosystem and create new opportunities in both conventional ammonia markets and the emerging green energy value chain.
