The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Telangana hosted the second edition of its flagship conference, ‘Pillars of Protection – Forging a Safer Future for Pharma and Chemical Manufacturing,’ bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, and safety experts to discuss strategies for improving industrial safety across the pharmaceutical and chemical sectors. Speakers unanimously emphasized that safety must evolve beyond regulatory compliance and become a strategic business priority driven by innovation, technology, and proactive risk management.
Telangana Seeks to Build a Global Benchmark in Industrial Safety
Sarvesh Singh, Director and CEO, Life Sciences and Pharma, government of Telangana, said that companies should view safety as a competitive advantage rather than merely a compliance requirement. He highlighted Telangana’s position as a global hub for life sciences and vaccine manufacturing and stressed the state’s responsibility to foster a proactive safety culture. To strengthen industrial safety, Singh encouraged organizations to promote incident reporting and adopt advanced technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Digital twins, wearable safety devices and drone-based inspections. According to him, innovation, quality, and safety are the three pillars of a globally competitive life sciences ecosystem. He urged the industry to work collectively towards making Telangana the safest destination for pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Industry Must Adopt ‘Safety by Design’
Chakravarthi AVPS, Convener, CII Telangana Pharma and Life Sciences Panel, and Chairman and Managing Director of Ecobliss India Pvt. Ltd., called on companies to embed safety into every stage of their operations. “Scale without safety is a liability, and growth without resilience is unsustainable,” he remarked. He urged organizations to move beyond regulatory compliance and embrace “Safety by Design” as a core business philosophy. Furthermore, he stressed that zero-incident operations should become an everyday objective rather than an aspirational goal. He also emphasized that companies should view investments in safety as essential for long-term business sustainability rather than as an operational expense.

R. Sivaprasad Reddy, Past Chairman of CII Telangana and Managing Director of Rachamallu Forgings Ltd., said that robust process safety is fundamental to building a resilient and globally competitive life sciences sector. He noted that process safety extends far beyond regulatory compliance and requires comprehensive emergency preparedness, AI-enabled safety systems, continuous workforce awareness and a strong organizational safety culture. According to Reddy, organizations that prioritize process safety will be better equipped to manage operational risks while strengthening business resilience.
