As Cipla nears its 90th year, Chairman YK Hamied reaffirmed the company’s unwavering mission to provide affordable, high-quality medicines in India and across global markets. Addressing shareholders, Hamied reflected on his “long and productive” journey with the company, spanning 65 years since 1960, calling it “the most rewarding experience” of his life.

Expanding Focus on Critical Therapies

Looking ahead, Cipla plans to strengthen its presence in key therapeutic areas, including respiratory, cardiac, cancer, obesity, and mental health. Hamied also emphasized the continued importance of anti-microbial treatments in the company’s portfolio. “Cipla remains one of the leading generic pharmaceutical companies, not only in India but also in Africa, the USA, Europe, and other emerging markets,” he noted.

Commitment to Palliative Care

Hamied highlighted Cipla’s longstanding commitment to palliative care through its Pune-based Palliative Care and Training Centre, launched in 1997. Over the years, the centre has supported more than 25,000 patients and their families, with services now extended to over 30 cities across India.

Strategic Investments and Growth Plans

Cipla Managing Director and Global CEO Umang Vohra outlined plans to strengthen the company’s research and manufacturing infrastructure. Cipla will invest around ₹2,000 crore annually in capacity expansion, funded internally. Vohra underscored the company’s diversified pipeline in biosimilars, mRNA, and the fast-growing diabetes and obesity segments, including GLP-1 products.

Cipla closed the last fiscal year with record revenues of ₹27,548 crore and cash reserves of ₹10,000 crore, earmarked for investments in science and technology to advance its research platform. As reported by thehindubusinessline.com, the company’s global manufacturing network, spanning the US, India, and other regions, completed around 100 audits with largely satisfactory results.
