Clariant Unveils PFAS-Free Aids for Greener Polyolefin Extrusion

Clariant unveiled its new AddWorks PPA product line, a next-generation polymer processing aid (PPA) solution designed specifically for polyolefin extrusion. Engineered without any PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), the new product line helps manufacturers stay ahead of tightening global regulations while achieving high-performance processing outcomes.

Sustainable Alternatives Aligned with Global Market Needs

The new AddWorks PPA range includes AddWorks PPA 101 FG, intended for markets across EMEA, the Americas, and SEAP, and AddWorks PPA 122 G, designed for Greater China and SEAP. Both are now commercially available, providing a timely and compliant alternative to conventional fluoropolymer-based PPAs.

“This product line marks a major step toward sustainable polymer processing,” said Diederik Goyvaerts, Global Business Development Manager, Polymer Solutions at Clariant. “We’re offering customers PFAS-free options that match or outperform traditional additives, helping them maintain quality while meeting evolving regulatory expectations,” Goyvaerts added.

Clean Chemistry for Safer, Compliant Packaging

The AddWorks PPA formulations are completely free from PFAS, inorganics, silicones, and polysiloxanes, making them ideal for use in food contact and packaging applications. Their clean chemistry aligns with upcoming EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) requirements and strengthens recyclability credentials—crucial for brands and converters striving to meet sustainability mandates.

Proven Performance with No Compromise on Quality

These PFAS-free processing aids bring tangible benefits to extrusion operations, including:

  • Improved extrusion efficiency
  • Elimination of sharkskin defects
  • Enhanced film surface smoothness
  • No negative impact on optical or mechanical properties, dyne levels, sealability, or coefficient of friction

Such performance ensures seamless integration into existing processes without trade-offs in product quality or functionality.

Flexible Formats for Streamlined Manufacturing

To meet varying production preferences, the new PPAs are offered in different formats:

  • AddWorks PPA 101 FG: A 100% active fine grain additive suitable for host resin, masterbatch, or concentrate incorporation
  • AddWorks PPA 122 G: A user-friendly masterbatch requiring the same dosage as conventional PPA masterbatches, simplifying manufacturer transitions

These formats enhance versatility and simplify adoption across a wide range of polyolefin film applications.

Expanding Opportunities in Key Sectors

Clariant’s new solutions are well-suited for blown and cast polyethylene film extrusion, commonly used in packaging, agriculture, and construction. Film converters, in particular, benefit from better film quality, fewer defects, and greater operational reliability—enabling more efficient downstream converting.

Driving Industry-Wide Sustainability and Innovation

With the launch of the AddWorks PPA line, Clariant reaffirms its position as a leader in sustainable material innovation. As global pressure mounts to eliminate harmful substances from supply chains, Clariant’s proactive development of PFAS-free solutions ensures that its customers remain competitive, compliant, and environmentally responsible.

“We’re committed to helping customers meet market demands for safer, sustainable, and transparent products,” the company noted. “The AddWorks PPA range is a future-ready solution supporting long-term regulatory compliance and performance excellence.”

A Future-Forward Solution for a Greener Industry

Clariant’s latest innovation addresses critical industry pain points—performance, compliance, and sustainability—in one comprehensive package. The press release stated that as industries shift toward more responsible material choices, the AddWorks PPA line positions Clariant and its partners at the forefront of this transformation, delivering value for both business and the planet.
