Coromandel Commissions Sulphuric Acid Plant in Visakhapatnam

Coromandel International, a phosphatic fertilizer company, recently inaugurated a sulphuric acid plant at its manufacturing complex in Visakhapatnam. The plant was established with an investment of ₹400 crore and would have a daily production capacity of 1,650 metric tons.

The new facility significantly boosts Coromandel’s sulphuric acid production capacity, increasing it from 0.6 million tons per annum to 1.1 million tons per annum. This expansion is essential for supporting the company’s downstream processes, particularly in the production of phosphoric acid and phosphatic fertilizers. It enhances the company’s backward integration capabilities and contributes to operational self-sufficiency. Importantly, the plant has been designed to meet global emission standards, and it will generate steam for captive power generation.

Coromandel International collaborated with MECS (Monsanto Enviro-Chem Systems) and TKIS (ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions) to execute the project. The company has established a desalination plant with a capacity of 6 million litres per day (MLD) to meet its increased water requirements. For the plant, Coromandel will be working with Veolia Water Technology and Solutions, a global leader in wastewater treatment.
