Despite challenging conditions, deugro USA successfully delivered more than 6,600 cubic meters of equipment for a major industrial project in the central United States. The company executed the project on behalf of Technip Energies.
Comprehensive Logistics Coordination from Start to Finish
Beginning in 2023, deugro’s Materials, Turnaround and Construction (MTAC) division led the coordination and delivery of nearly 50 individual shipments. These shipments included furnace modules, cooling towers, pump skids exceeding 53 cubic meters, and various container types, ranging from 20-foot and 40-foot standard and open-top containers to flat racks.
Because of its specialized expertise in refinery operations and its proven track record at active refinery sites, deugro USA secured the contract for this complex assignment. The team strictly adhered to the highest safety and industry standards. Moreover, it applied extensive operational knowledge to manage activities efficiently within a live industrial environment and remote location.
Global Transport Network and Strategic Oversight
Acting as the project’s control tower, deugro Houston’s MTAC division coordinated closely with international offices to maintain alignment with strict schedules and project requirements. The team collected cargo from Korea, China, Italy, the United Kingdom, India, Germany, and Mexico.
Subsequently, deugro utilized a combination of domestic road transport, international ocean freight, air freight, and breakbulk solutions to move the cargo to the job site. Most shipments traveled by ocean freight to the Port of Houston, where crews transloaded the cargo onto truck-trailer configurations for final delivery.
To ensure safe inland transport, the team conducted preliminary road surveys, arranged escort services, and scheduled stops at designated rest areas. In total, trucks covered approximately 180,000 kilometers to complete all deliveries.
Proactive Planning and Cost Optimization
To maintain efficiency, the MTAC team kept constant communication with all stakeholders. They held regular status meetings, issued weekly tracking updates, and closely monitored weather conditions, delivery sequences, and equipment availability.
As per the press release, this proactive and collaborative approach not only ensured safe and on-time deliveries but also generated significant cost savings for the client. By identifying transportation synergies, optimizing carrier selection, and consolidating cargo, the MTAC experts reduced overall international shipping costs.
Overcoming Remote Location and Severe Weather
The remote project site presented additional logistical hurdles. Limited carrier access complicated parcel deliveries, yet the MTAC division successfully sourced qualified trucking partners to complete the job.
Furthermore, severe winter weather intensified the challenge. High winds, snowstorms, heavy snowfall averaging 48 inches annually, ice, and temperatures dropping to an average low of 2°F required meticulous planning. Therefore, the team prioritized detailed scheduling and preparation to avoid extreme weather conditions whenever possible.
Through close coordination with the on-site material handling and management team, deugro ensured that each incoming shipment followed a structured offloading plan. This disciplined execution prevented personal injury, minimized cargo damage, and maintained construction timelines.
Leadership Perspective
Chahid Mouawad, MTAC Logistics Manager at deugro USA, emphasized the importance of consistent on-site presence and transparent communication. He explained that maintaining open dialogue among all stakeholders proved critical, particularly when limited working hours and weather-related shutdowns threatened delays. By quickly escalating issues for clarification, the team minimized cargo holdovers and avoided unnecessary costs.
Gert Jensen, Senior Vice President of Operations at deugro USA, highlighted the broader impact of the collaboration. He noted that close coordination among international deugro offices, the client, and on-site teams ensured that every shipment arrived safely and on schedule. He also reaffirmed that the team executed the project in full compliance with the highest safety and industry standards while delivering cost-effective logistics solutions that support long-term industrial sustainability.
