E3 Lithium Secures Conditional Federal Funding to Accelerate Clearwater Project

E3 Lithium Ltd. received conditional approval for up to C$36.5 million in non-repayable funding from the Government of Canada under the Global Partnerships Initiative (GPI). This strategic funding aims to accelerate the development of the company’s flagship Clearwater Project in Alberta.

Funding to Fast-Track Demonstration Facility and Feasibility Study

The approved funding will cover approximately 75% of the projected C$48 million cost required to complete Phase 3 of E3 Lithium’s Demonstration Facility, along with its Clearwater Project Feasibility Study.

With this support, the company will expand and accelerate its demonstration operations. Notably, Phase 3 will feature a full-scale commercial column designed to produce lithium chloride equivalent to 100 tonnes per year of lithium carbonate. The facility is located near Olds, Alberta, positioning it strategically within Canada’s emerging lithium ecosystem.

In addition, the funding will support Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) activities, which are critical for advancing the project toward a final investment decision.

Advancing Direct Lithium Extraction and Commercial Readiness

The funding will play a crucial role in scaling up E3 Lithium’s proprietary Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) technology. By operating at a 1:1 commercial scale, the company aims to de-risk its extraction process and validate its efficiency under real-world conditions. The initiative will enable continued production of battery-grade lithium carbonate at a larger scale. This progress will help finalize engineering parameters and deliver a Class 3 cost estimate—key requirements for making a Final Investment Decision (FID).

Strengthening Canada’s Critical Minerals Supply Chain

The funding underscores the Canadian government’s confidence in E3 Lithium’s role in developing secure and reliable critical mineral supply chains. This initiative aligns with broader national priorities to strengthen energy security and support allied defence industries. E3 Lithium is also collaborating with global technology leaders, including Axens Group and ABB. These partnerships bring advanced expertise in clean energy technologies, further strengthening the project’s execution.

Leadership Perspectives

Chris Doornbos, President and CEO of E3 Lithium, highlighted the significance of this funding milestone. He noted that Canada has a generational opportunity to lead in critical minerals and that this investment will accelerate the company’s path toward commercial production. While the funding marks a major milestone, it remains subject to standard due diligence and the finalization of a contribution agreement. Once completed, E3 Lithium will be well-positioned to advance the Clearwater Project toward commercial operations.

Outlook: Driving Growth in Canada’s Lithium Sector

As global demand for lithium continues to rise—driven by electric vehicles and energy storage—E3 Lithium’s Clearwater Project is poised to become a key contributor to Canada’s clean energy future. As per the press release, with strong government backing, advanced technology, and strategic partnerships, the company is moving closer to becoming one of Canada’s first commercial lithium producers.
