European electrolyser manufacturer Elcogen has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with JNK India to explore solid oxide technology opportunities across high-impact industrial applications. Through the collaboration, the two companies will evaluate both technical and commercial pathways for integrating Elcogen’s proprietary solid oxide stacks and multi-stack modules into systems that recover and utilize industrial waste heat. The partnership marks Elcogen’s first agreement with an Indian engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) player and signals its strategic expansion into South Asia.

Targeting Hard-to-Abate Sectors and Power-to-X

Initially, the partners will focus on applications in hard-to-abate sectors, including:

*Green ammonia

*Green urea

*E-fuels

*Power-to-X projects

*Other global decarbonisation initiatives

In addition, they will assess hybrid system concepts that combine alkaline and solid oxide technologies. By integrating complementary electrolysis solutions, the companies aim to enhance efficiency and potentially reduce the cost of green hydrogen production. The approach aligns with growing global demand for low-carbon fuels and scalable hydrogen solutions.

Leveraging Waste Heat for Higher Efficiency

India’s industrial sector accounts for approximately 42% of the country’s total energy consumption. However, nearly one-third of that energy is lost as waste heat, negatively affecting efficiency and emissions performance. Experts estimate that recoverable waste heat potential could reach up to 250 TWh annually. By deploying solid oxide technology—which operates at high temperatures and can effectively integrate waste heat—the collaboration aims to unlock this underutilized energy resource. As a result, industries can improve overall efficiency while lowering carbon intensity.

Energy Transition

Dipak Bharuka, Whole Time Director and CEO of JNK India, highlighted, “The global energy industry is undergoing rapid transformation, driven by renewable energy growth, decarbonisation initiatives, and digital technologies. Green hydrogen and low-carbon fuels are shaping the design and execution of future energy projects. Our collaboration with Elcogen is a strategic step toward strengthening the green energy ecosystem and supporting our customers in achieving their energy transition goals.” Enn Õunpuu, CEO and Founder of Elcogen, emphasized, “India’s energy sector is moving quickly. Partnerships like this allow us to better understand local needs while sharing our experience in solid oxide technology.”

Strengthening the Green Hydrogen Ecosystem

As reported by gasworld.com, overall, the partnership between Elcogen and JNK India reflects a broader shift toward integrated, high-efficiency clean energy systems. By combining advanced solid oxide technology with India’s engineering and industrial capabilities, the companies aim to accelerate green hydrogen adoption, improve waste heat utilization, and drive cost-effective decarbonisation across key industrial sectors.
