Enphase Energy, developer and manufacturer of solar micro-inverters for both residential and commercial use, is planning to expand its product range by introducing lithium-ion (li-ion) batteries in India by the end of the year.
After launching its batteries in Bengaluru and Kochi, the company has already received pre-sales orders and expects continued growth.
Raghu Belur, Enphase Energy’s Senior Vice President, Co-Founder, and Chief Products Officer stated, “We are expanding our product offerings beyond solar inverters by adding li-ion batteries for the Indian market”.
The batteries are produced at a third-party facility in the United States. Sourcing lithium remains a challenge, as China dominates a large portion of the global supply chain. Major lithium deposits are located in countries like Australia, Chile, China, Argentina, and Brazil, with China being a leading processor of the material.
Belur emphasized the importance of diversifying the supply chain. While Enphase initially focused its manufacturing in China, production there has been scaled back, and China now represents one of the company’s smaller markets.
Most of its manufacturing is now based in the US. Enphase has also experienced double-digit growth in Europe and views India as a crucial market for renewable energy, especially with the Indian government’s increasing support for the sector.
The company operates manufacturing facilities in the US, Mexico, China, and India. As reported by thehindubusinessline.com, Enphase’s R&D center in Bengaluru plays a pivotal role in advancing the company’s technology and engineering efforts.
