Grundfos India Becomes World’s First Pump Manufacturing Site to Earn TRUE Certification

Grundfos India announced that its Chennai facility has become the world’s first pump manufacturing site to receive the TRUE (Total Resource Use and Efficiency) Platinum Certification for zero waste — the highest level of recognition for sustainability and resource efficiency.

The TRUE Certification, administered by Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), sets a global benchmark for organizations that go beyond compliance to adopt holistic, resource-efficient waste management practices. The certification helps businesses reduce environmental impact, manage risks, reinvest resources, and build long-term value through responsible operations.

Driving Resource Efficiency Across Operations

As the first Grundfos facility worldwide to earn this prestigious certification, the Chennai plant underwent a rigorous evaluation across multiple sustainability parameters — including packaging, environmental management, health and safety, supplier partnerships, and landscape maintenance.

Key initiatives that contributed to this milestone include:

*Optimised Product Design: Reducing resource consumption and waste generation, particularly in engineered-to-order pumps and systems.

*Sustainable Procurement Practices: Embedding environmental considerations at the sourcing stage to minimize waste throughout the supply chain.

*Supplier Collaboration: Partnering with suppliers to optimize packaging materials and promote pallet reuse across local and global operations.

*Holistic Zero-Waste Policies: Extending sustainability practices beyond organizational boundaries for greater impact.

*Employee-Driven Sustainability Culture: Empowering employees through training programs and kaizen initiatives that embed sustainability into everyday operations.

Through these concerted efforts, Grundfos India has achieved a 98.2% waste diversion rate from landfills, covering diverse materials such as wood, metal, plastic, e-waste, corrugated paper, food residue, and landscaping waste.

Building on a Legacy of Green Leadership

This new milestone adds to Grundfos India’s impressive sustainability journey. The company has long championed green innovation:

*In 2005, its Chennai headquarters became India’s first commercial Gold-rated green building certified by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

*The facility later achieved LEED Platinum certification, affirming its continued commitment to environmental performance.

In 2024, Grundfos India advanced further by earning the LEED Zero Water certification, recognizing its leadership in water stewardship and conservation.

Leadership Commitment to Sustainable Impact

Usha Subramaniam, Country President, Grundfos India, said, “Grundfos India has consistently set the standard for sustainability in the industry. This recognition reaffirms our leadership and our relentless pursuit of impact through innovation and responsibility. It demonstrates what is possible when sustainability becomes a shared mission across the organisation.”

Pioneering a Circular, Sustainable Future

As per the press release, with the TRUE Platinum certification, Grundfos India strengthens its position as a global leader in sustainable manufacturing, demonstrating how waste can be transformed into value. The company’s ongoing initiatives reflect a future-focused approach where resource efficiency, environmental responsibility, and innovation drive every aspect of its operations — setting a powerful example for industries worldwide.
