Government has revised the specifications for nano-urea, mandating a higher nitrogen content, which will be produced by Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO). The change comes after the expiration of the initial notification issued in 2021. IFFCO has concurrently announced the introduction of a new product called nano urea plus (liquid), designed to meet the updated specifications, likely targeting the upcoming kharif season. Production of this new product is expected to commence soon at IFFCO’s existing facilities.

Under the new specifications set by the agriculture ministry, valid for three years, nano-urea produced by IFFCO must contain a minimum of sixteen percent nitrogen by weight. This marks a significant increase from the previous notification issued on February 24, 2021, where the nitrogen content ranged between one and five percent by weight over a similar three-year validity period.

As reported by businessline, with the new specifications, which boast nitrogen levels four times higher than the current four percent in nano-urea, there is anticipation for improved results with Nano Urea Plus.
