A new study by Fondazione MAIRE in collaboration with IPSOS highlights shifting global attitudes toward the energy transition. Notably, India has emerged as a frontrunner in both awareness and commitment to decarbonization. Conducted across fourteen countries and based on more than 2,300 interviews, the 2025 survey provides valuable insights into how nations perceive and prioritize the global energy transition.

India Tops in Awareness and Commitment

India stands out with a strong 63% public awareness rate regarding energy transition concepts. Even more significantly, 71% of respondents perceive a clear national commitment to decarbonization strategies. As a result, India leads the study in aligning public awareness with policy-driven climate action. This strong positioning reflects the country’s growing focus on renewable energy expansion, low-carbon technologies, and sustainability-driven industrial development.

Qatar and Argentina: Contrasting Awareness Levels

The study also includes new entrants—Qatar and Argentina—offering fresh regional insights. Qatar reports a high public awareness rate of 67%, indicating widespread familiarity with energy transition goals. In contrast, Argentina faces awareness challenges, with only 36% of respondents stating they are fully familiar with energy transition concepts. These variations underscore how regional priorities, economic structures, and communication strategies shape public understanding of decarbonization efforts.

Skills and Human Capital: The Critical Enablers

Beyond awareness, the study emphasizes the growing demand for both technical and soft skills to drive the energy transition forward. Countries increasingly recognize that engineering expertise alone is not sufficient. Instead, problem-solving abilities, critical thinking, and adaptability are becoming equally essential.

For example, Kazakhstan expresses concerns over the cost of transition, while Saudi Arabia anticipates short-term economic benefits. Meanwhile, China and Chile identify education and workforce development as immediate priorities.

Strategic Vision Key to Energy Transition Success

Ultimately, the study concludes that success in the global energy transition depends on two key pillars: strategic policy vision and sustained investment in human capital. As reported by finanzwire.com, governments and industries must work together to build resilient systems, develop skilled talent, and foster innovation. As countries accelerate their decarbonization roadmaps, India’s strong public awareness and perceived commitment position it as a significant player in shaping the future of sustainable energy.
