Since 2018, the Pesticides Manufacturers and Formulators Association of India (PMFAI) has been organising the PMFAI–SML Annual Agchem Awards, with sponsorship support from SML Limited, to recognise excellence across the Indian agrochemical industry. The awards honour individuals and organisations whose achievements and leadership have contributed to the sustainable growth of Indian agriculture and the agrochemicals sector. Over the years, the platform has emerged as one of the most respected forums celebrating innovation, resilience, and long-term industry impact.

Guiding Legend Award at the 7th PMFAI–SML Agchem Awards 2026

At the seventh edition of the PMFAI–SML Annual Agchem Awards 2026, held on 19 January 2026, the Indian agri-inputs industry came together to honour one of its most influential leaders. The industry conferred “The Guiding Legend Award” on Pradip Dave, Chairman, AIMCO Pesticides Ltd, and President, PMFAI, in recognition of his extraordinary contribution spanning over six decades.

A Career Rooted in Science and Industry-Building

A science graduate from Mumbai University, Dave began his professional journey in 1965. Over the decades, he established himself as a cornerstone of the Indian agrochemical industry. As Chairman of AIMCO Pesticides Limited, Mr. Dave has led the company for more than five decades, steering it through sustained growth in manufacturing excellence, product formulations, and market leadership.

Architect of PMFAI and Champion of the Industry

Beyond corporate leadership, Dave’s most enduring contribution lies in institution-building. He has served as President of PMFAI for over 35 years, playing a pivotal role in guiding the industry through its formative years. During periods marked by regulatory complexity and market dominance by multinational corporations, Mr. Dave emerged as a strong and consistent voice for Indian formulators and manufacturers. His leadership helped shape PMFAI’s evolution from the Pesticides Formulators Association of India (PFAI) to its current form, reflecting the industry’s transition into technical manufacturing. Through sustained engagement with policymakers and regulators, he has safeguarded industry interests while enabling Indian agrochemicals to gain global competitiveness.

Deep Institutional Impact Across the Chemical Sector

Dave’s influence extends well beyond PMFAI. Since 1991, he has been a member of the governing body of the Institute of Pesticide Formulation Technology (IPFT), operating under the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers. His commitment to strengthening the MSME ecosystem is evident from his long-standing role as Chairman of CAPMA (Confederation of All India Small & Medium Pesticides Manufacturers Associations) since 2008.

In addition, as a former Vice Chairman of CHEMEXCIL and a Founder Member of the CHEMTECH Foundation, Dave has actively promoted international trade, cross-sector collaboration, and strategic alliances spanning the Oil & Gas, Pharma, Chemical, and Infrastructure sectors.

Industry Leaders Applaud a Visionary Leader

Ramanathan Seethapathi, President and CEO of Gharda Chemicals International, USA, described Mr. Dave as a principal architect of India’s global agrochemical presence. Reflecting on the industry’s evolution, Mr. Seethapathi recalled that four decades ago, 12 to 15 multinational corporations dominated the Indian market. Government policies at the time mandated MNCs to sell 50% of their technical-grade products to domestic formulators, creating a crucial entry point for Indian companies. During this challenging phase, Seethapathi credited “Pradeepbhai” as the defining voice for small and medium formulators, ensuring their survival and long-term growth.

A Legacy of Advocacy and Discipline

Through decades of advocacy, collaboration, and principled leadership, Dave has consistently defended the interests of the Indian agrochemical industry. His disciplined approach to life and leadership, Seethapathi noted fondly, is well known—often visible during their early morning walks at Juhu Beach, Mumbai. He concluded by wishing Dave continued health and strength as he leads PMFAI into its next phase of growth.

A Standing Ovation for a True Industry Legend

In recognition of his monumental legacy, PMFAI, with sponsorship support from SML Limited, formally presented “The Guiding Legend Award” to Pradip Dave. Bimal Shah, Managing Director, SML Limited, presented the award in the presence of senior industry leaders. As per the press release, the moment culminated in a standing ovation from over 900 national and international delegates, celebrating a leader whose vision and perseverance have shaped the Indian agrochemical industry for generations.
