Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited, a global sustainable chemical player, announced a major circular economy milestone—over 150 billion post-consumer PET bottles recycled since the company began its recycling journey in 2011. The achievement highlights Indorama Ventures’ long-standing commitment to building a closed-loop, low-carbon future through continued investment in recycling infrastructure and innovation.
Global Recycling at Scale: 789 Bottles Every Second
With a robust network of more than 20 recycling facilities across 11 countries, Indorama Ventures currently recycles approximately 789 PET bottles every second. These bottles are transformed into high-quality recycled PET (rPET) resins and circular materials used across industries—enabling customers and partners to meet their sustainability goals while reducing plastic waste.
Accelerated Progress Reflects Strategic Investment
Indorama Ventures has significantly accelerated its recycling momentum over the last few years. After reaching 50 billion bottles recycled by March 2020, the company doubled that number to 100 billion by 2023. In under two more years, it has now reached the 150 billion milestone, underscoring not only the growing global demand for recycled content but also the company’s strategic focus on scaling infrastructure, partnerships, and advanced technologies.
“Recycling 150 billion PET bottles is more than a milestone—it reflects the power of people, purpose, and technology driving scalable, sustainable impact,” said Yash Lohia, Executive President of Petchem and Chairman of the ESG Council. “We’re proud of how far we’ve come and remain committed to going further,” Lohia added.
Real Impact: Reducing Emissions and Diverting Waste
The environmental and social impact of this achievement is profound. By recycling 150 billion PET bottles, Indorama Ventures has:
*Avoided an estimated 3.8 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions over the lifecycle of the products
*Diverted approximately 2.8 million tonnes of plastic waste from landfills and the environment
These figures reinforce the company’s role in delivering tangible climate action and advancing global sustainability objectives.
The Circular Model: Education, Collection, and Innovation
Indorama Ventures’ circular economy success rests on three integrated pillars:
- Education
Through its flagship Waste Hero education program, the company has already educated nearly 1 million people worldwide—including students and local communities—empowering them to adopt sustainable habits and responsible recycling practices.
- Collection
Indorama Ventures works with an extensive network of local collection organizations. This ensures a steady stream of high-quality post-consumer PET, supporting the strength and reliability of circular supply chains.
- Innovation
Indorama Ventures actively collaborates with leading technology partners. Together, they implement advanced recycling solutions that boost processing efficiency and reduce environmental footprint.
Looking Ahead: Commitment to Circular Growth
As per the press release, as global demand for recycled materials continues to surge, Indorama Ventures reaffirms its commitment to expanding recycling capacity, accelerating innovation, and working closely with stakeholders to scale the circular economy worldwide. “This milestone wouldn’t be possible without the support of our consumers, customers, and partners. Long-term thinking, strategic investment, and collaboration are the cornerstones of our impact—and our path forward,” said Lohia.
