K J Somaiya Hosts IconSWMCE and IPLA Global Forum 2023

K J Somaiya Institute of Management hosted the 13th International Conference on Sustainable Waste Management and Circular Economy (IconSWMCE) and IPLA Global Forum 2023. The event served as a vital platform for discussions and knowledge sharing among diverse stakeholders, addressing global challenges such as resource exploitation, waste generation, increased emissions, and the impact of rising temperatures.

The conference was organised by the International Society for Waste Management Air and Water (ISWMAW) and the International Partnership for Expanding Waste Management Services of Local Authorities (IPLA). Associate partners included the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), UNCRD, State Bank of India, SME Chamber of India, Chemical Engineering World, and SINTEF (Norway).

The speakers included Dr. Raman Ramachandran, Director at K J Somaiya Institute of Management, Professor Sadhan K Ghosh, ISWMAW, Professor Gert Morscheck (Rostock University, Germany), Professor Raghunath K. Shevgaonkar (Provost, Somaiya Vidyavihar), C R C Mohanty (UNCRD Japan),  Shigemoto Kajihara (President, JSMCWM, Japan) and  Professor Misuzu Asari (JSMCWM), Bart De Jong (Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands), Dr Prasad Modak (Environmental Management Centre),  Dr Kare H Karstensen (Chief Scientist, SINTEF, Norway), Prof V N Rajasekharan Pillai (Vice Chancellor, Somaiya Vidyavihar University), Nandkumar Gurav (Assistant Secretary, (Maharashtra Pollution Control Board) Sanjeev Kumar (Chief Manager, State Bank of India), Professor Prasanta Dey (Lead Partner, Going Global Project, Aston University, UK), Agamuthu Pariatamby, Professor, (Jeffrey Sachs Center on Sustainable Development, Malaysia), and

The press release stated that a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between ISWMAW and JSMCWM. The conference witnessed good participation, with 380 plus research and white paper presentations across 53 tracks from 44 countries, making it a hub of global insights and expertise. Raman Ramachandran, Director, KJSIM stated, “Hosting the conference underscores our commitment to sensitise business school faculty and students the importance of responsible citizenship, technology, business model innovation and entrepreneurship in sustainable waste management”.
