The CNR Rao Education Foundation, established by Bharat Ratna awardee and distinguished scientist Prof. C.N.R. Rao, has named two scientists from Kerala — Prof. Subi George of the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bengaluru, and Prof. Kana Sureshan of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Thiruvananthapuram — as recipients of the ‘National Award for Supramolecular Chemistry’.
Pioneering Contributions to Supramolecular Chemistry
The award recognises Prof. Subi George for his groundbreaking research in light harvesting and organic optoelectronics, as well as his pioneering studies on the fundamental principles of supramolecular polymerisation. Furthermore, his work has greatly deepened the understanding of how molecular assemblies interact and function within complex systems.
Prof. Kana Sureshan’s research spans topochemical polymer synthesis, supramolecular gels, peptide chemistry, and crystal engineering. His innovative approaches have opened new avenues for designing functional materials with applications in biotechnology and materials science.
