Kirloskar Pneumatic launched Tonalli, an advanced decentralized integrated food waste management solution designed to convert organic waste into renewable energy and organic fertilizer. The launch event was held on May 13, 2026, at the company’s head office and manufacturing facility in Hadapsar, Pune. The new solution supports sustainable waste management practices by transforming food and organic waste into biogas while promoting circular economy principles and environmental responsibility.
Tonalli designed for sustainable waste-to-energy conversion
Tonalli has been developed as a compact, plug-and-play waste-to-energy system capable of achieving 100% waste utilization. The solution focuses on decentralized waste processing, enabling organizations to manage organic waste directly at the source instead of relying on centralized disposal systems. By converting food waste into biogas and organic fertilizer, the system helps reduce landfill waste, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and support renewable energy generation.
Advanced BioBit Technology powers the system
The Tonalli platform incorporates advanced BioBit Technology to efficiently process continuous streams of organic waste. The technology has been specifically designed to address the growing demand for compliance-driven and sustainability-focused waste management solutions following the implementation of India’s Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026. Its decentralized operating model allows waste to be treated on-site, thereby reducing transportation costs and improving waste handling efficiency.
Multi-stage biogas purification improves energy quality
The biogas generated through the Tonalli system undergoes a comprehensive multi-stage purification process before use. This includes moisture removal and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) scrubbing to improve gas quality and operational safety. The purified biogas can then be utilized as a cleaner alternative to conventional fossil fuels such as LPG, helping industries and communities reduce energy costs and carbon emissions. In addition to renewable energy generation, the system also produces organic fertilizer, creating additional value from processed waste streams.
Supporting carbon reduction and circular economy goals
According to technology partner NobleExchange Environment Solutions Private Limited, every Tonalli installation contributes significantly to environmental sustainability. The company stated that each deployed system can deliver benefits equivalent to planting thousands of trees, replacing LPG consumption, and generating carbon credits. The solution aligns with India’s increasing focus on sustainable waste management, renewable energy adoption, and carbon reduction initiatives. It also supports industries seeking to strengthen their ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) performance and comply with evolving environmental regulations. As reported by scanX, with the launch of Tonalli, Kirloskar Pneumatic is expanding its sustainability-focused technology portfolio while addressing the growing need for decentralized waste processing infrastructure in India.
