Linde Appoints Sanjiv Lamba as Chairman and CEO Effective January 2026

Linde announced that its Board of Directors has appointed Sanjiv Lamba, currently serving as Chief Executive Officer, to the additional role of Chairman of the Board, effective January 31, 2026. Lamba will succeed Steve Angel. Angel will retire from Linde’s Board on the same date, ending his 25-year distinguished tenure with the company.

Steve Angel Retires After 25 Years of Impactful Leadership

Steve Angel leaves behind a legacy of transformative leadership. He has served as Chairman since 2022, CEO from 2018 to 2022, and previously as Chairman and CEO of Praxair, Inc.—Linde’s predecessor company—from 2007 to 2018.

Angel said, “It has been a privilege to serve Linde over the past 25 years. I’ve especially enjoyed working alongside our talented employees and fellow Directors. While I am excited to pursue a new leadership opportunity and give it my full commitment, I am confident Linde is in excellent hands with Sanjiv, the Board, and the leadership team. Together, they’ve built a strong foundation to continue driving sustainable growth and long-term shareholder value. I look forward to staying connected as a proud, long-term shareholder of Linde.”

Lamba to Lead Linde’s Next Phase of Growth

Upon assuming the role of Chairman, Lamba will continue as Chief Executive Officer, a position he has held since 2022. Linde advanced its global growth strategy and strengthened its position as a leader in the industrial gases and engineering sector under his leadership.

“I am honoured that the Board of Directors has asked me to serve as Chairman of the company,” said Lamba. “I would like to thank Steve for his exceptional contributions and leadership over his distinguished career with Linde and appreciate the invaluable mentorship and insights I have gained from him over the years,” Lamba added.

Bob Wood, Linde’s Lead Independent Director, emphasized, “The Board believes this leadership structure, with Sanjiv serving as both CEO and Chair, reflects the most effective model for the company at this time. As always, the Board will continue to regularly review these roles to ensure alignment with the company’s needs and the interests of its stakeholders.”

Sean Durbin Named Chief Operating Officer to Drive Operational Excellence

Linde announced the appointment of Sean Durbin as Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective October 1, 2025. This move comes in conjunction with the recent Board-level changes. The move is aimed at accelerating growth initiatives and strengthening operational performance across the company’s global businesses.

Durbin brings over 30 years of experience with Linde, having held senior leadership roles in both the United States and Europe. He most recently served as Executive Vice President of Linde North America since September 2023.

“Sean brings a wealth of operational expertise, leadership experience, and strategic insight across our global markets,” said Lamba. “I am confident in Sean’s ability to support Linde in delivering additional shareholder value,” Lamba added.

Strengthening Leadership for Long-Term Growth

As per the press release, the leadership transition underscores Linde’s commitment to sustained growth, innovation, and value creation. With Sanjiv Lamba leading as both Chairman and CEO, and Sean Durbin assuming the COO role, Linde will continue driving operational excellence. The company will also deliver value to shareholders and shape the future of the industrial gases industry.
