L&T and Holtec Forge Strategic Partnership for Nuclear Heat Transfer Solutions

The Heavy Engineering business of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Holtec International’s Asia division to provide integrated design and build solutions for heat transfer equipment used in the nuclear and thermal power sectors.

Building on Existing Partnership for SMR Technology

L&T already works with Holtec on the global deployment of the SMR-300 Small Modular Reactor, supported by the U.S. Department of Energy’s 810 Authorisation. The new MoU, moreover, strengthens the partnership by expanding cooperation into critical heat transfer systems that enhance reliable plant operations.

Combining Engineering Strength and Design Expertise

Under the partnership, L&T’s advanced nuclear-grade manufacturing capabilities will be combined with Holtec’s proven thermal system design expertise. As a result, the companies will jointly develop and supply advanced heat transfer solutions for both nuclear and conventional thermal power plants, particularly across the power island and balance-of-plant segments.

Supporting Global Energy Transition and Efficiency

The collaboration aims to deliver technology that enhances thermal regulation, maximises cycle efficiency, and ensures robust plant performance. According to the company press release, the joint effort supports the global push for clean, secure, and resilient energy infrastructure, positioning nuclear power as a key contributor to long-term sustainability and grid stability.

Leadership Perspective

Anil Parab, Whole-time Director and Senior EVP – Heavy Engineering and CE & IPDD at L&T, said, “Post-COVID, energy security has become a key priority, with over 32 countries committing to triple their nuclear capacity. Our partnership with Holtec will help accelerate efficient energy deployment and support a sustainable energy future.”
