Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has partnered with US technology leader NVIDIA to develop India’s largest gigawatt-scale (GW-scale) AI factory. The landmark initiative aims to position India as a global AI services hub while meeting the country’s rapidly growing domestic demand for advanced computing. The project, announced under the India AI Mission, will create sovereign, scalable AI infrastructure comparable to global hyperscalers and major enterprise cloud providers.

Building Sovereign, Scalable AI Infrastructure

The proposed AI factory will deliver gigawatt-scale computing power and enterprise-grade AI services. By integrating NVIDIA’s AI infrastructure — including advanced storage platforms, AI enterprise software, and validated reference architectures — L&T intends to enable rapid, secure, and large-scale AI deployment across industries. Importantly, the initiative focuses on building sovereign AI infrastructure. This means critical data, AI models, and workloads will be developed, trained, and deployed within India, while remaining interoperable with global ecosystems. As a result, Indian enterprises can scale AI adoption without compromising data security or regulatory compliance.

Supporting Industry-Wide AI Adoption

The AI factory will serve both Indian and global markets. It will cater to priority sectors such as:

*Manufacturing

*Infrastructure and energy

*Financial services

*Healthcare

*Public services

By offering standardized, enterprise-grade AI capabilities, the platform will ensure predictable performance, enhanced security, and faster time-to-value for industrial and service-sector applications.

L&T Chairman and Managing Director S. N. Subrahmanyan emphasized that Indian enterprises are ready to transition from AI pilot projects to full-scale production deployment. He noted that integrating NVIDIA’s advanced AI ecosystem will accelerate secure and reliable AI adoption across sectors.

The venture will deploy AI-ready data centre infrastructure and high-performance computing platforms. It will also foster an enabling ecosystem capable of supporting large-scale AI workloads across critical industries.

Strengthening India’s Position in Global AI Services

By creating gigawatt-scale AI infrastructure, L&T and NVIDIA aim to establish India as a competitive global AI services provider. As reported by msn.com, the move aligns with national ambitions to strengthen digital sovereignty, enhance industrial productivity, and drive next-generation innovation. Through this collaboration, India is expected to move beyond experimental AI use cases and enter a phase of enterprise-scale, production-grade AI implementation.
