Lubrizol, a known name in the specialty chemicals industry, and Grasim Industries, the flagship company of Aditya Birla Group, have commenced the first phase of constructing a CPVC resin plant with a production capacity of 1,00,000 tons in Vilayat, Gujarat.

The facility, situated on Grasim Industries’ premises, is set to become the largest single-site CPVC resin production capacity worldwide. It is strategically designed to meet the increasing demand for CPVC (chlorinated polyvinyl chloride) resin in piping applications across India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Indonesia.

The plant will leverage Lubrizol’s advanced CPVC resin manufacturing technology and draw upon Grasim’s expertise in producing top-quality CPVC materials. Lubrizol is in the process of doubling its existing CPVC compound manufacturing capacity to 1,40,000 tons at its Dahej facility in Gujarat. The two projects combined will address the expected annual growth of 10-12 percent in CPVC demand within India.

As reported by businessline, Lubrizol is planning to establish a research and development centre at its Dahej site to cater to the evolving requirements of the Indian market. The first phase of the Vilayat resin plant and the additional production line in Dahej are anticipated to be operational by early 2025. In addition to these projects, Lubrizol is in the process of establishing a global capability centre in India to support regional expansion.
