Maharashtra–Australia Innovation Hub Launched to Expand Global Research Opportunities

The Maharashtra government announced the establishment of the Maharashtra–Australia Innovation and Skills Hub (MAISH), a landmark initiative aimed at transforming the state into a global centre for research, innovation, and skills development. The Department of Higher and Technical Education will set up the hub to connect Maharashtra’s academic and industrial ecosystem with Australia’s world-class research and skills networks.

Fostering Research in Key Sectors for Sustainable Growth

MAISH will focus on advancing research and training in strategically important sectors such as energy, environment, and health — areas crucial for sustainable development and technological progress. By facilitating joint research projects, exchange programmes, and collaborative innovation initiatives, the hub will create new opportunities for students, researchers, and faculty members from both regions.

Collaboration Between Leading Institutions

Several of Maharashtra’s premier institutions, including IIT Bombay, University of Mumbai, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), and Dr. DY Patil University, will participate in the initiative. From Australia, prestigious universities such as the University of Newcastle, Monash University, RMIT University, and the University of Sydney will join the collaboration, bringing their global expertise and innovation capabilities to the partnership.

Officials emphasized that the collaboration will significantly strengthen the academic and research capabilities of Maharashtra’s universities. “The partnership will not only enhance the academic and research capabilities of Maharashtra’s universities but also make the state an attractive destination for international collaborations and investments in education and innovation,” they said.
