NITI Aayog released two significant reports — ‘Ease of Doing Research & Development in India’ and ‘Survey Report on Ease of Doing R&D in India’ — to strengthen and streamline India’s research and innovation landscape. Together, these reports aim to identify bottlenecks and recommend actionable reforms that can make India a more research-friendly and innovation-driven economy.
Built on Extensive Nationwide Consultation
Importantly, the reports are the outcome of a nine-month consultative exercise. During this period, NITI Aayog gathered insights from over 400 institutional leaders and more than 850 scientists and researchers across the country. The findings reflect ground realities and practical challenges faced by India’s R&D ecosystem.
Key Findings and Actionable Recommendations
Vivek Kumar Singh, Senior Adviser at NITI Aayog, noted that it identifies critical challenges across funding, governance, and regulatory frameworks. Accordingly, the reports recommend strengthening innovation ecosystems, supporting early-stage researchers, enhancing private sector investment in R&D and simplifying regulatory and administrative processes. These measures aim to improve efficiency, reduce barriers, and accelerate research outcomes.
Way Forward: Building a Robust R&D Framework
The reports provide a comprehensive roadmap to transform India’s R&D ecosystem. They advocate for a more trust-based governance approach, greater focus on outcome-driven research and improved mechanisms for research translation and commercialization. As reported by knnindia.co.in, the reforms aim to empower researchers, strengthen institutions, and position India as a global hub for innovation and technology development.
