Novo Holdings Invests in Pune-Based Surya Hospitals

Novo Holdings, the Danish parent company of global pharmaceutical major Novo Nordisk, has announced a strategic investment in Pune-based Surya Hospitals. The deal size to be in the range of ₹1,000–2,000 crore. Novo Holdings has acquired a 49% stake in Surya Hospitals. The company is the largest private women’s and children’s specialty hospital chain in Western India. The investment marks a significant entry by the Danish healthcare investor into India’s rapidly expanding maternal and paediatric care segment.

Expanding Presence Across Western India

Surya Hospitals operates a network of superspecialty hospitals across Mumbai, Pune, and Jaipur. Previously, private equity firm SeaLink Capital Partners was reportedly exploring an exit. It holds a 49% stake and is one of Surya’s key investors.

With this investment, Novo Holdings aims to support Surya Hospitals’ next phase of growth. Specifically, the funding will help expand the hospital chain’s footprint across Western India. It strengthen clinical infrastructure, and build deeper specialist medical teams.

Leadership Emphasises Long-Term Partnership

Board-Level Participation Strengthens Governance

As part of the transaction, Amit Kakar and Navjeewan Khosla will join the board of directors at Surya Hospitals. In addition, Hulbert Soh, Principal at Novo Holdings Asia, will join the board as an observer. This move reinforces the investor’s active role in the company’s strategic direction.
