Kellton, an AI-driven digital transformation and enterprise technology consulting company, successfully launched a large-scale digital wellhead monitoring initiative for Oil India Limited (OIL), India’s second-largest national oil and gas company. The project, powered by Kellton’s proprietary Optima Digital Oilfield Platform, was formally inaugurated under the leadership of Dr. Ranjit Rath, Chairman and Managing Director, Oil India Limited. Kellton secured the implementation contract, valued at approximately US$2.5 million, in December 2024. Since then, the company has successfully delivered the project within an ambitious six-month timeline, marking a significant advancement in OIL’s digital transformation strategy.
Real-Time Monitoring Across Production Assets
As part of the initiative, real-time production data from 77 production wells spread across 46 well plinths has been integrated into the Optima platform, creating a comprehensive digital oilfield ecosystem. The deployment includes a fully integrated edge-to-cloud monitoring infrastructure comprising 482 field devices, 390 wireless and wired sensors and gauges, secure telemetry gateways and solar-powered field infrastructure. Together, these technologies provide enhanced production intelligence, enabling improved operational visibility, faster decision-making, and more effective management of critical field operations.
Building the Foundation for Intelligent Oilfield Operations
Beyond real-time monitoring, the Optima Digital Oilfield Platform establishes a scalable foundation for the next generation of smart oilfield operations. The platform supports advanced capabilities such as AI-driven production analytics, predictive maintenance, intelligent workflow automation, integrated asset lifecycle management and digital twin environments. By leveraging these technologies, Oil India can optimize production performance, reduce operational inefficiencies, and enhance asset reliability while preparing for future digital innovations.
Advanced Technology Stack Powers the Deployment
The solution combines multiple advanced technologies to deliver a robust and scalable digital infrastructure. The implementation incorporates Emerson’s field instrumentation technologies and AWS cloud infrastructure within the broader Optima ecosystem. The platform utilizes industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), edge intelligence, and cloud-native architecture to enable seamless data collection, transmission, analysis, and visualization across geographically dispersed production assets.
Oil India Highlights Benefits of the Partnership
Oil India Limited stated, “As Oil India Limited continues to advance towards digital transformation and modernize production operations, partnering with organizations that bring both deep industry expertise and proven execution capabilities is critical. Kellton demonstrated a strong understanding of our operational requirements and successfully delivered a robust production monitoring platform within the scheduled timeline.” The company further noted that the Optima platform has significantly improved visibility across field operations, enabling more informed decision-making, enhanced operational efficiency, and greater performance transparency. According to OIL, the platform also provides a scalable and future-ready foundation that will support ongoing optimization and innovation initiatives across its production assets.
Kellton Reinforces Vision for Smarter Energy Operations
Ramana Palisetti, Global Director (Energy Business Unit), Kellton, said, “We are proud to partner with Oil India on this important milestone and support its vision of building smarter, more connected, and increasingly intelligent energy operations.” He added that Optima has been specifically designed for upstream oil and gas environments, enabling operators to consolidate field data, monitor production assets in real time, automate workflows, and generate predictive insights through AI-powered analytics. “By combining edge intelligence, cloud-native scalability, and centralized operational visibility, the platform helps energy enterprises improve production efficiency, accelerate decision-making, and build a scalable foundation for the future of intelligent oilfield operations,” he said.
Proven Digital Oilfield Platform with Global Reach
