Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is set to present the field development plan (FDP) for the second deepest hydrocarbon discovery globally, located in the Krishna Godavari (KG) basin, by January 2026.

The company oversees block KG-DWN-98/2, encompassing Cluster I, II and III. Cluster III hosts an ultra-deepwater gas discovery, poised to become the world’s second deepest hydrocarbon discovery upon monetisation. The submission of the FDP is slated for January 2026.

Following discoveries in any block, the operator is mandated to submit the FDP for approval by the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH). Subsequently, the production facility development will commence, followed by testing and eventual commercial production.

As reported by PROJECTS TODAY, cluster I comprises three discoveries, with FDPs for two discoveries gaining approval in 2019. The project is presently in the development stage. In Cluster II, commercial production from one gas field has initiated since March 2020, and the commercial production of crude oil is scheduled for May 2024. The entire project is expected to achieve full completion by 2024.
