Origin Materials Aims at Advancing Production of Low-carbon Biofuels

Origin Materials, Inc., located in West Sacramento, California, and Proman, a major methanol producer based in Wollerau, Switzerland, have announced a strategic partnership aimed at advancing the production of low-carbon biofuels through Origin’s innovative technology and Proman’s global expertise in fuels.

Within this collaboration, Origin Materials and Proman have entered an agreement to jointly explore the creation and worldwide distribution of low-carbon biofuels.

Origin Materials Co-CEO Rich Riley expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting Proman’s leadership in natural gas-derived products and their extensive proficiency in global shipping and supply chains. Riley emphasized that the market for biofuels is rapidly expanding, with a growing focus on low-carbon-intensity biofuels derived from wood waste. He explained that Origin’s unique technology platform, which leverages the “oils and extractives” intermediate stream, is well-suited to deliver these renewable fuels. Riley noted the potential applications of such fuels in marine and other transportation sectors, industrial processes, power generation, and beyond.

Origin plans to harness its patented technology to produce bio-based fuels by transforming the carbon present in sustainable wood residues into valuable products.

David Cassidy, Chief Executive of Proman, welcomed the partnership, highlighting the crucial role that certified lower-carbon fuels and feedstocks will play in driving the transition to a more sustainable world. Cassidy emphasized the potential of biofuels to reduce emissions across various sectors, from manufacturing to transportation. He underlined the alignment between Proman and Origin’s commitment to innovation and their shared belief in methanol’s capacity to enable greener manufacturing. By combining Origin’s technology with Proman’s production expertise and distribution network, the collaboration seeks to pave the way for environmentally responsible solutions across various aspects of daily life.
