Padma Shri Prof. Ganapati D. Yadav, an eminent chemical engineer and former Vice-Chancellor of the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai, awarded the prestigious Sir P. C. Ray Award by the Syndicate of the University of Calcutta. The award was formally presented during the University of Calcutta’s Convocation Ceremony held on March 23, 2026. The honour was conferred by the Chancellor of the University and Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal, Shri R. N. Ravi, recognizing Prof. Yadav’s outstanding contributions to science, technology, and chemical engineering.

Honouring the Legacy of Acharya P. C. Ray
The award carries the name of Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray, a legendary scientist widely regarded as one of the founding figures of modern chemical science in India. Acharya Ray was the founder President of the Indian Chemical Society and the Indian Chemical Council (formerly the Indian Chemical Manufacturers’ Association). In addition to his scientific achievements, Acharya Ray also served as the founding editor of the Journal of the Indian Chemical Society, which continues to be an important platform for publishing chemical research.

Prof. G. D. Yadav currently serves as the President of the Indian Chemical Society and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Indian Chemical Society, further strengthening his contributions to the scientific community.
