Praj Industries Launches Advanced Precision Fermentation Lab at Praj Matrix

Praj Industries announced the establishment of an Advanced Precision Fermentation Lab at Praj Matrix, marking a significant step toward accelerating next-generation biotechnology and low-carbon biomanufacturing in India. The announcement, made during the 18th Praj Matrix Foundation Day, underscores the company’s commitment to strengthening India’s bioeconomy through innovation, skill development, and academia–industry collaboration.

Driving Next-Generation Biomanufacturing with AI-Enabled Technologies

The newly launched facility stands out as a globally advanced platform focused on high-capacity, AI-enabled precision fermentation. It aims to improve process efficiency, minimise scale-up risks, and enhance reliability in bioprocessing. The lab will enable Praj and Praj HiPurity Systems to deliver cutting-edge fermentation solutions across industries such as pharmaceuticals, food, cosmetics, biofuels, and beverages.

Strategic Collaboration with BRIC–NCCS

To further strengthen its innovation ecosystem, Praj formalised a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BRIC–NCCS (Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council – National Centre for Cell Science). The partnership integrates Praj’s expertise in process engineering and manufacturing with NCCS’s strengths in microbial research, genomics, and cell culture repositories. As a result, the collaboration will accelerate the journey from scientific discovery to scalable biomanufacturing.

Additionally, the initiative will focus on:

*Developing advanced bioprocessing capabilities

*Discovering high-value biomolecules and microbial strains

*Offering training, internships, and research opportunities for PhD scholars

*Enabling long-term joint research and industry sponsorships

Aligning with India’s BioE3 Vision

The initiative aligns closely with the government’s BioE3 (Biotechnology for Economy, Environment, and Employment) programme, led by the Department of Biotechnology. Rajesh S. Gokhale, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology (DBT), emphasised that strong academia–industry linkages and a skilled scientific workforce will be critical to driving India’s bioeconomy growth. He noted that such collaborations will accelerate innovation and strengthen the country’s bio-based economy.

Integrating Biology, Engineering, and Digital Innovation

Pramod Chaudhari, Founder Chairman of Praj Industries, highlighted that the lab represents a major milestone in the company’s innovation journey. He stated that the facility combines biology, engineering, and digital technologies to create scalable and sustainable solutions. Furthermore, the collaboration with BRIC–NCCS will play a crucial role in talent development and in bridging the gap between research and commercial deployment.

Strengthening India’s Bioeconomy Leadership

The launch of the Advanced Precision Fermentation Lab reinforces Praj Industries’ leadership in industrial biotechnology. As per the press release, by combining advanced research, strategic partnerships, and scalable solutions, the company is well-positioned to drive India’s transition to a globally competitive, low-carbon biomanufacturing ecosystem.
