Praj Industries Unveils Advanced Fermentation Lab to Power India’s BioE3 Vision

Praj Industries unveiled an Advanced Precision Fermentation Lab at its innovation hub, Praj Matrix, marking a significant step toward next-generation industrial biotechnology and low-carbon biomanufacturing. The announcement was made during the 18th Praj Matrix Foundation Day.

Driving Next-Gen Biomanufacturing with AI and Precision Fermentation

The newly established lab will focus on AI-enabled precision fermentation and advanced bioprocessing technologies. By doing so, it aims to:

*Improve process efficiency

*Reduce scale-up risks

*Enhance operational reliability

Additionally, the facility will support a wide range of industries, including pharmaceuticals, food, cosmetics, biofuels, and beverages. It will also strengthen the capabilities of Praj HiPurity Systems, Praj’s Mumbai-based subsidiary known for precision fermenters and ultra-pure water systems.

Strong Academia-Industry Collaboration

To further accelerate innovation, Praj has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council – National Centre for Cell Science (BRIC-NCCS).

This collaboration will:

*Advance bioprocess development and scalable manufacturing

*Enable discovery of novel biomolecules and microbial strains

*Provide hands-on training and internships for PhD scholars

*Promote joint research and long-term academia-industry partnerships

As a result, the initiative is expected to bridge the gap between laboratory research and commercial-scale biomanufacturing.

Aligned with India’s BioE3 Strategy

The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s BioE3 (Biotechnology for Economy, Environment, and Employment) vision, led by the Department of Biotechnology. Speaking at the event, Rajesh S. Gokhale, Secretary, DBT, highlighted that strong academia-industry linkages and a skilled workforce will be key drivers of India’s bioeconomy growth.

Leadership Perspective: Scaling Innovation

Pramod Chaudhari emphasised that the new lab integrates biology, engineering, and digital technologies to create scalable, sustainable solutions. He added that the initiative will accelerate the transition from scientific discovery to commercial deployment.

Praj Matrix: A Hub for Bio-Innovation

Over the years, Praj Matrix has emerged as a core innovation engine for Praj Industries. Its research spans:

*Biofuels and renewable chemicals (biopolymers, biobitumen)

*Industrial biotechnology and enzyme development

*Advanced water and wastewater treatment solutions

Backed by over 90 scientists, multiple specialised labs, and a strong intellectual property portfolio with 300+ patents, Praj Matrix continues to develop technologies that are scaled globally.

Accelerating India’s Bio-Based Economy

With the latest development, Praj reinforces its commitment to collaborative innovation by bringing together academia, industry, and policymakers. As reported by chinimandi.com, as India pushes toward a sustainable and self-reliant bioeconomy, initiatives like this advanced fermentation lab will play a crucial role in driving low-carbon manufacturing, innovation, and global competitiveness.
