Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd (RCFL) announced plans to invest ₹865 crore to set up a new phosphoric acid facility in Maharashtra. With this strategic investment, the company aims to strengthen raw material security and enhance its integrated fertilizer operations.
Strengthening Raw Material Security for DAP and NPK Production
The proposed plant will significantly improve RCF’s access to phosphatic inputs, which are critical for producing complex fertilizers such as DAP (Di-Ammonium Phosphate) and NPK grades.
By expanding in-house phosphoric acid production, RCF intends to:
*Reduce dependence on imports
*Improve supply chain stability
*Optimize operational costs
*Enhance production efficiency
As global fertilizer markets remain volatile, this backward integration strategy will help the company ensure greater control over key raw materials.
Aligning with India’s Fertilizer Self-Reliance Goals
The project aligns with the government’s broader objective of boosting domestic fertilizer manufacturing capacity. By increasing local production of essential nutrients, the initiative supports the goal of ensuring consistent fertilizer availability for India’s agricultural sector. Maharashtra continues to serve as a strategic hub for RCF’s operations. In particular, the company’s Thal unit plays a central role in its production network, making the location ideal for capacity expansion.
Boosting Agricultural Productivity and Regional Growth
Once commissioned, the new phosphoric acid facility is expected to:
*Strengthen agricultural productivity by ensuring steady nutrient supply
*Enhance value addition within RCF’s integrated operations
*Support regional industrial development
*Generate employment opportunities
