Evergreen Lithium Recycling, a group company of Recyclekaro India Limited, signed a technology licensing agreement with Indian Institute of Technology Bombay to strengthen the extraction of battery precursor-related critical minerals and improve battery recycling efficiency. The partnership marks a major milestone in Recyclekaro’s efforts to develop scalable and technology-driven solutions for India’s rapidly growing circular economy and clean energy sectors.
Focus on Cost Optimization and Process Efficiency
Under the agreement, Recyclekaro will leverage advanced technology developed by IIT Bombay to enhance urban mining and resource recovery capabilities. The licensed technology is expected to deliver nearly 30–40 percent optimization in processing costs while significantly improving operational efficiency in battery recycling.
As demand for lithium-ion batteries continues to rise across electric vehicles and energy storage applications, efficient recovery of critical minerals has become increasingly important. Through this collaboration, Recyclekaro aims to strengthen domestic recycling infrastructure and reduce dependence on imported raw materials.
Supporting India’s Critical Mineral and EV Ecosystem
The partnership comes at a time when India is intensifying efforts to secure critical mineral supply chains and accelerate localization in the battery manufacturing ecosystem. By combining industrial expertise with academic research, the collaboration is expected to support the country’s clean energy transition and electric mobility ambitions.
Rajesh Gupta, Founder and MD, Recyclekaro, said, “Building a robust critical minerals ecosystem in India requires strong collaboration between industry and academia. Our partnership with IIT Bombay is a strategic step towards enhancing process efficiency while also investing in indigenous innovation, talent, and infrastructure. We believe such R&D-specific collaborations will play a pivotal role in shaping India’s position in the global resource recovery and recycling landscape.”
Driving Innovation Through Industry-Academia Collaboration
Recyclekaro stated that the agreement will further strengthen its technological capabilities and accelerate innovation in battery recycling and sustainable material recovery solutions. Additionally, the collaboration reflects the company’s broader vision of promoting deeper industry-academia engagement to drive growth in the critical minerals, urban mining, and circular economy sectors. As per the press release, by investing in indigenous technologies and research partnerships, Recyclekaro aims to contribute to the development of commercially viable and sustainable solutions for India’s future material requirements.
