RSPL Strengthens Footprint in Gujarat with SOKA’s Soda Ash Capacity Expansion

RSPL Group secured environmental clearance to significantly expand production at its soda ash subsidiary, SOKA. The approval enables the company to double its soda ash manufacturing capacity from 5,00,000 tons per annum (TPA) to 1 million TPA at its facility in Dwarka district, Gujarat. In addition to capacity expansion, the company will also introduce sodium bicarbonate production, thereby broadening its inorganic chemicals portfolio and strengthening its domestic and export market presence.

Phased Expansion to Meet Rising Industrial Demand

The expansion will be executed in phases. To begin with, SOKA plans to increase output to 7,50,000 TPA over the next two years, adding 250,000 tons within its existing inorganic chemical complex. Subsequently, the company will scale up to the full one million TPA capacity, aligning production with growing demand from key downstream industries. The plant’s infrastructure will support large-scale growth, allowing SOKA to execute the expansion efficiently and sustainably. As demand rises across detergents, glass manufacturing, chemicals, and renewable energy segments, the additional capacity will ensure reliable supply and improved market responsiveness.

Strengthening Supply to Detergent, Glass, and Solar Industries

With higher production capacity, SOKA aims to reinforce its role as a strategic supplier to multiple industries:

*Soda ash light is widely used in detergent manufacturing, water treatment, pulp and paper, and chemical processing.

*Soda ash dense serves as a core raw material for flat glass, float glass, container glass, metallurgy, ceramics, dyes, and textiles.

*Importantly, the expansion will also support the solar glass segment, a critical input for solar panels. By enhancing supply to solar glass manufacturers, SOKA contributes directly to India’s renewable energy and clean energy growth ambitions.

Supporting Domestic Manufacturing and Export Growth

Company leadership emphasized that the clearance aligns with national manufacturing priorities by improving domestic availability of critical raw materials. The expansion also strengthens India’s export competitiveness in soda ash.

Commissioned in 2019 in Gujarat’s Dwarka district, SOKA’s greenfield facility has developed a strong export footprint, supplying nearly 50 countries across Central America, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region. Supported by international technology partnerships and a captive co-generation power unit, the plant ensures operational reliability and stable supply. As a result, the latest expansion reinforces both domestic supply chains and export capabilities while positioning SOKA among India’s leading soda ash producers.

A Strategic Step in Clean Energy and Industrial Growth

Ultimately, the capacity doubling reflects a broader strategy: scale responsibly, support local communities, and enable industrial self-reliance. By expanding soda ash output and adding sodium bicarbonate production, RSPL Group strengthens its footprint in the chemical manufacturing sector while supporting downstream industries, including India’s rapidly growing solar glass ecosystem. As reported by procurementresource.com, the development marks a significant milestone in Gujarat’s industrial expansion and underscores the rising importance of soda ash in driving both economic growth and clean energy transition.
