The Solvent Extractors Association of India (SEA), representing the edible oils industry, has asked the government to implement import restrictions on finished products such as stearic acid and refined glycerine. Alternatively, the association suggests imposing additional tariffs on raw materials to protect domestic interests.

In its appeal to Food and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, the SEA emphasized the significant threat faced by the domestic oleochemical industry due to the influx of finished products like stearic acid, refined glycerine, soap noodles, and oleic acid with zero-duty imports.

SEA has urged the government to promptly address this issue and take necessary measures to safeguard the domestic industry. As reported by Business Standard, the industry body has urged the government to consider permitting duty-free imports of all essential raw materials for oleochemical players equipped with splitting, distillation, and hydrogenation plants.
