Stahl, the global player in speciality coatings for flexible materials, officially reopened its Ranipet facility in India, marking a major milestone in the company’s transformation journey. The move reinforces Stahl’s strategic commitment to innovation, sustainability, and customer collaboration in one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.

A Strategic Return to India

Originally inaugurated in April 2000, the Ranipet facility operated until 2019. Following Stahl’s divestment of its wet-end activities, the site has been revitalized with a focus on leather finishing, performance coatings, and packaging coatings. The reopening strengthens Stahl’s local production capabilities, aligning with its ‘local for global’ business model and enabling the company to serve both regional and global customers with greater agility and responsiveness.

Integrated Capabilities for Innovation

The upgraded Ranipet facility now combines coatings formulations, R&D, and application lab and testing under one roof. This integrated setup allows Stahl to:

*Accelerate development cycles

*Strengthen customer collaboration

*Co-innovate rapidly with partners

With a state-of-the-art innovation lab, the company can respond swiftly to evolving market needs and scale operations efficiently to meet growing demand.

A Hub for Growth and Customer-Centric Solutions

India represents a key growth market across all three of Stahl’s business segments. By reopening Ranipet, Stahl ensures closer proximity to customers, enhancing service, delivery, and innovation impact. Maarten Heijbroek, CEO of Stahl, commented, “The reopening of our Ranipet site is an important milestone in Stahl’s transformation journey. Producing locally in India strengthens our position and enables us to better support our customers with tailored, innovative solutions.”

A Modern, Sustainable Facility

The Ranipet plant is equipped with latest technology and automated systems and fully complies with environmental and safety regulations. It features a cutting-edge wastewater treatment system that recycles all process water, achieving zero liquid waste—making the facility a model for sustainable and future-ready manufacturing.

Ranganath BV, Managing Director – India and Bangladesh, added, “Ranipet has always been a special place for Stahl. Its reopening is both a homecoming and a new beginning. This modern, sustainable facility strengthens our ability to serve customers locally while contributing to Stahl’s global innovation journey.”

Looking Ahead

The press release states that the reopening of the Ranipet facility does more than mark a return—it demonstrates Stahl’s long-term commitment to innovation, strategic growth, and customer proximity in India. With modern infrastructure and a highly skilled workforce, the facility will deliver sustainable, high-performance coatings and reinforce Stahl’s leadership in this vital growth region.
