Thermax, provider of energy and environment solutions, inaugurated a pilot facility in Pune dedicated to the development of Solid Oxide Electrolyser Cell (SOEC) technology. The facility marks a significant step in the company’s green hydrogen strategy. Over the next 11 months, Thermax will work in collaboration with UK-based technology partner CERES to develop a pressurised SOEC system.
The initiative is part of Thermax’s efforts to design a modular, high-efficiency green hydrogen solution that aims to reduce the Levelised Cost of Hydrogen (LCOH). The inauguration ceremony was attended by the core team leading Thermax’s green hydrogen innovations.
Expanding Green Manufacturing Footprint
Thermax’s pilot SOEC facility in Pune adds to its robust manufacturing network, which includes ten plants in India out of a total of fourteen facilities globally. Key domestic locations include Shirwal, Paudh, Solapur, Dahej, Jhagadia, Mundra, Savli (Gujarat), and Sri City (Andhra Pradesh). These facilities support the company’s growing portfolio in sustainable energy and industrial applications.
Diversified Business Segments Driving Industrial Growth
Thermax operates through four key business segments:
*Industrial Products: This segment includes boilers, chillers, air pollution control systems, and water treatment equipment. Demand is driven by core sectors such as metals, cement, and food & beverage.
*Industrial Infrastructure: Focused on turnkey solutions, this segment delivers process heating, power generation systems, and large-scale industrial utilities.
*Green Solutions: A fast-growing area, it covers clean energy, clean air, and clean water offerings. Solutions include biomass-fired equipment, solar PV installations, waste heat recovery, and ongoing work in green hydrogen, including plans for commercial SOEC manufacturing.
*Chemicals: This portfolio features ion exchange resins, water and fuel treatment chemicals, oil field additives, and construction chemicals to support various industries.
Comprehensive Services and Digital Innovation
Beyond manufacturing, Thermax also offers a wide range of operations and maintenance services for industrial utilities and power plants. Through its digital platform Thermax EDGE Live, the company leverages AI/ML-driven analytics to improve asset performance using real-time data. Additional services include energy audits, retrofitting, and Build-Own-Operate (BOO) models, managed by its subsidiary Thermax Onsite Energy Solutions Limited (TOESL).
As reported by machinist.in, Thermax has inaugurated a new SOEC facility. This move reinforces its commitment to green innovation and energy transition. The company aims to deliver cost-effective, scalable hydrogen solutions to support India’s decarbonization goals.
