MEIL Bags $225 Million Oil Project Contract from Kuwait Oil Company

Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd (MEIL) bagged a $225.5 million contract from the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) to design, construct, operate, and maintain a New Gas Sweetening and Sulphur Recovery Facility (NGSF) in West Kuwait’s oil fields. This project marks a significant expansion of MEIL’s footprint in the Middle East oil and gas sector, reinforcing its expertise in executing complex hydrocarbon infrastructure projects.

Project Scope and Execution

The project will follow a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model, with KOC retaining an option to buy back the facility. Execution will occur in two stages: the Construction Phase and the Operation and Maintenance Phase. The facility is located near Booster Station BS-171, with completion scheduled within 790 days, followed by five years of operation and maintenance.

The associated Sulphur Recovery Unit (SRU) will include two trains, each capable of processing 100 TPD (Tons Per Day) of sulphur, achieving an overall sulphur recovery efficiency of 99.9%. Engineers designed the plant to treat sour gas containing up to 4% hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) and 10% carbon dioxide (CO₂), processing 120 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD).

Enhancing Environmental Safety and Gas Processing

Gas sweetening removes acidic gases like H₂S and CO₂, making natural gas safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant. The purified gas will be dehydrated and transported via KOC’s pipeline network to the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) plant at Mina Ahmadi Refinery for further processing. “We are honoured to partner with Kuwait Oil Company for this strategic gas sweetening facility in West Kuwait. This project reflects MEIL’s commitment to delivering world-class energy infrastructure that enhances environmental safety and operational efficiency,” said P. Doraiah, Director, MEIL.

MEIL’s Global Expertise

This project complements MEIL’s ongoing initiatives, including similar SRU projects for Rajasthan Refinery and Mongol Refinery. The Hyderabad-based MEIL Group has a diverse international portfolio. It executes infrastructure projects in countries such as Mongolia, Tanzania, and Italy, spanning sectors including drinking water, hydrocarbons, and power. As reported by thehindubusinessline.com, MEIL strengthens its strategic presence in the Middle East by delivering this advanced facility. The project also supports Kuwait’s goals of sustainable energy, cleaner fuel production, and environmental compliance.
