Attero, one of India’s largest critical minerals company and one of the world’s most advanced urban mining firms, successfully completed an independently verified Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in accordance with ISO 14040:2021 and ISO 14044:2021 standards. The achievement establishes scientifically validated environmental performance data for metals recovered through the company’s e-waste and lithium-ion battery recycling operations.

As a result, Attero can now provide customers with product-specific, independently verified environmental data for its recycled metals. This enables businesses to accurately compare the environmental benefits of urban mining with those of conventional virgin mining. With industries increasingly focusing on ESG goals, sustainable procurement and Scope 3 emissions reduction, access to credible environmental data has become a critical factor in sourcing decisions.

Scientifically Measuring the Environmental Impact

Life Cycle Assessment is globally recognised as one of the most comprehensive methods for evaluating the environmental footprint of a product throughout its life cycle. Using internationally accepted scientific methodologies, Attero’s assessment quantifies the environmental performance of recovered metals, including aluminium, copper, iron, zinc, tin, silver and gold.

The assessment measures key environmental indicators such as carbon footprint, resource depletion, acidification, eutrophication, ecotoxicity, human toxicity and fossil resource consumption Importantly, the study compares these impacts with those associated with conventionally mined virgin metals, offering customers a transparent and scientifically validated sustainability benchmark.

Supporting ESG and Responsible Sourcing

The ISO-verified LCA allows customers to move beyond generic sustainability claims and industry averages. Instead, they gain access to independently verified environmental performance data that enables direct, like-for-like comparisons between recycled and virgin metals. Consequently, organisations can strengthen ESG reporting, Scope 3 emissions accounting, green procurement initiatives, Product Environmental Declarations (EPDs), regulatory environmental disclosures and sustainable supply chain reporting. As global regulations become more stringent and investors demand greater transparency, verified environmental data is rapidly becoming an essential business requirement.

Urban Mining Drives the Circular Economy

Nitin Gupta, Co-Founder and CEO of Attero, said, “The circular economy requires more than recycling; it requires measurable proof of environmental impact. This independently verified Life Cycle Assessment allows us to provide customers with scientifically validated environmental data for the metals we recover, enabling informed sourcing decisions and stronger sustainability reporting.” He further added that as industries seek responsible and sustainable sources of critical minerals, verified environmental performance will become as important as product quality, purity and traceability. According to him, the milestone reinforces urban mining as a scalable and sustainable solution for meeting the world’s growing demand for critical materials.

Advanced Technology Powers High Recovery Rates

Attero has established itself as a technology leader in critical minerals recovery through continuous investment in research and innovation. The company holds more than 50 global patents and has developed proprietary technologies to recover valuable metals from complex e-waste and lithium-ion battery waste streams.

Its advanced recycling processes achieve:

Up to 98% metal recovery efficiency

More than 99.9% purity in recovered materials

Recovery of strategic materials including lithium, cobalt, nickel, graphite, copper, gold and silver

These capabilities not only reduce dependence on conventional mining but also strengthen domestic supplies of critical minerals required for clean energy, electronics and advanced manufacturing.

Enhancing Transparency in Sustainable Supply Chains

With this ISO-verified Life Cycle Assessment, Attero further strengthens its leadership in the circular economy. Every tonne of recycled metal is now backed by independently verified environmental intelligence, providing customers with greater confidence in their sustainability claims. As per the press release, the verified data improves transparency across the value chain, helping manufacturers, OEMs and industrial buyers make informed sourcing decisions while supporting climate goals and resource efficiency. As industries continue their transition towards circular and low-carbon business models, Attero’s latest achievement positions the company as a trusted partner for sustainable critical minerals and responsible urban mining.
