GAIL (India) Limited and Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Limited (RCF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore the development of a new gas-based fertilizer plant in Maharashtra. The proposed project aims to strengthen India’s domestic fertilizer production capacity and reduce dependence on imported fertilizers. The collaboration will combine GAIL’s expertise in the natural gas sector with RCF’s established fertilizer manufacturing infrastructure and industry capabilities. Through this partnership, both public sector enterprises aim to support the expansion of India’s fertilizer manufacturing infrastructure.
GAIL and RCF to Leverage Their Industry Expertise
Under the MoU, both companies will explore the development of the proposed gas-based fertilizer facility by leveraging their respective strengths:
GAIL (India) Limited: Will contribute its expertise in natural gas and the gas sector to support the proposed project.
Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Limited (RCF): Will bring its established fertilizer manufacturing infrastructure and industry expertise to the collaboration.
By combining their capabilities, the two companies aim to facilitate the development of a new fertilizer manufacturing facility in Maharashtra.
Project to Strengthen Domestic Fertilizer Production
The proposed gas-based fertilizer plant is expected to contribute to India’s domestic fertilizer production capacity. Furthermore, the initiative aligns with the Government of India’s objective of strengthening self-reliance in the fertilizer sector. The project also supports the broader goal of reducing fertilizer import dependence and improving the availability of domestically manufactured fertilizers. In addition, expanding domestic manufacturing infrastructure could strengthen the country’s fertilizer supply chain.
