The partnership with Republic Cement and Building Materials demonstrates how cross-industry collaboration can maximize resource efficiency, reduce landfill waste, and support sustainable manufacturing.
Partnership Promotes a Circular Economy
Through its recycling business, IndoNova, Indorama Ventures converts post-consumer PET bottles into high-quality food-grade recycled PET (rPET), enabling used plastic bottles to be transformed into new food-grade packaging. While bottle-to-bottle recycling remains central to its sustainability strategy, the company continues to develop innovative solutions that extend the life cycle of materials beyond conventional recycling. As a result, PETValue Philippines, a joint venture between Indorama Ventures and Coca-Cola Europacific Aboitiz Philippines, has partnered with Republic Cement to launch the Zero Waste to Landfill initiative.
Philippines’ First Food-Grade PET Recycling Facility
Located in Cavite, PETValue Philippines is the country’s first bottle-to-bottle food-grade PET recycling facility. The plant processes used PET bottles and converts them into new food-grade plastic packaging, supporting the growing demand for recycled packaging materials. However, during the recycling process, bottle caps and labels cannot be recycled into new PET products. Instead of sending these materials to landfill, they are recovered by ecoloop, Republic Cement’s resource recovery business.
Non-Recyclable Plastic Waste Becomes Alternative Fuel
Under the initiative, bottle caps, labels, and other non-recyclable plastic materials are co-processed as alternative fuel in Republic Cement’s manufacturing facilities. This approach not only diverts waste from landfills but also recovers energy from materials that would otherwise be discarded. Consequently, the partnership improves resource utilization while supporting more sustainable cement production.
