Linde signed six new Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) to procure renewable electricity across Europe, Africa, and India, further strengthening its commitment to sustainability and low-carbon operations. The agreements will significantly expand the company’s renewable energy portfolio while supporting its long-term climate goals.
New PPAs to Power Operations with Renewable Energy
The newly signed agreements cover Linde’s operations in Spain, Greece, South Africa, and India. Through these PPAs, the company will source renewable electricity generated from newly developed wind and solar energy projects. Collectively, the agreements will provide approximately 0.63 terawatt-hours (TWh) of renewable electricity annually, enabling Linde to further reduce the carbon intensity of its operations across the EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa) and APAC (Asia Pacific) regions.
Renewable Power Continues to Grow
Linde continues to accelerate its transition toward cleaner energy sources. The company stated that low-carbon electricity now accounts for nearly 50% of its global power consumption. Furthermore, Linde has increased its active renewable electricity procurement by 2.7 times compared to its 2021 baseline. Renewable power purchases have grown from 2.8 TWh in 2021 to 7.6 TWh in 2025, reflecting the company’s sustained investment in renewable energy sourcing.
Supporting Linde’s 2035 Climate Targets
The new renewable energy agreements represent another important milestone in Linde’s global sustainability strategy. Erin Catapano, Vice President – Sustainability, Linde, said, “By continuing to actively secure new sources of renewable power, we are accelerating progress toward our target to reduce absolute emissions by 35% by 2035 while supporting our customers in reducing their own emissions.” The company continues to prioritize renewable electricity procurement as one of the key initiatives for lowering operational greenhouse gas emissions and advancing industrial decarbonisation.
Helping Customers Reduce Carbon Emissions
Beyond reducing emissions within its own operations, Linde is also helping customers achieve their sustainability objectives. In 2025, the company enabled customers to avoid approximately 98 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) emissions. This figure is more than twice the greenhouse gas emissions generated by Linde’s own global operations, highlighting the company’s growing contribution to industrial decarbonization worldwide.
Sustainability Leadership Recognized Globally
Linde’s sustainability performance continues to receive global recognition through inclusion in several leading environmental, social, and governance (ESG) benchmarks. These recognitions underscore Linde’s commitment to responsible business practices, climate action, and sustainable industrial growth.
Strengthening the Transition to Low-Carbon Industry
With the addition of six new renewable power purchase agreements, Linde continues to expand its renewable energy footprint across key international markets. As per the press release, as industries increasingly pursue decarbonisation, the company’s investments in wind and solar energy reinforce its position as a global leader in sustainable industrial gases and climate-focused innovation.
