Jindal and Oyster Collaborate to Develop Hybrid Renewable Energy Project

Jindal Stainless and Oyster Renewable Energy Pvt. Ltd. have partially commissioned a 315.6 MW solar–wind hybrid renewable energy project in Agar-Malwa, Madhya Pradesh, marking a significant step toward clean energy adoption in India’s industrial sector. Developed by Oyster Renewable with a total investment exceeding ₹2,000 crore, the project also includes ₹132 crore invested by Jindal Stainless. The initiative reflects the growing collaboration between industrial companies and renewable energy developers to accelerate India’s transition to sustainable energy.

Project Capacity Across Two States

The hybrid renewable energy project spans two major locations. Approximately 216 MW of generation capacity is located in Madhya Pradesh, while 99 MW will operate in Gujarat. The commissioning process has begun in phases, with the Madhya Pradesh facility being the first to come online. This phased approach ensures efficient integration of renewable power into the grid while supporting stable energy supply for industrial operations.

Advanced Hybrid Technology for Stable Power Supply

The project integrates bifacial solar modules and Suzlon 3.15 MW wind turbines, creating a balanced hybrid energy system. By combining solar and wind power generation, the facility can deliver more consistent renewable energy output, which is crucial for energy-intensive industries such as stainless steel manufacturing. Hybrid renewable systems also help overcome intermittency issues typically associated with standalone renewable sources, thereby improving reliability and operational efficiency for industrial consumers.

Strengthening Industrial Decarbonisation

According to Siddharth Bhatia, Managing Director and CEO of Oyster Renewable Energy, the project demonstrates the company’s ability to develop large-scale hybrid renewable infrastructure with strong technological and financial discipline. He noted that the project integrates solar and wind resources to deliver stable and cost-efficient renewable power, while reducing carbon emissions by approximately 6.5 lakh tonnes annually. Bhatia also emphasised that industrial decarbonisation will play a crucial role in India’s journey toward net-zero emissions, particularly as industries seek reliable clean energy solutions.

Jindal Stainless Expands Clean Energy Portfolio

Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director of Jindal Stainless Ltd, highlighted that sustainability remains a core pillar of the company’s long-term growth strategy. He explained that the partnership with Oyster Renewable strengthens the company’s clean energy portfolio while helping reduce the carbon intensity of its operations. Large-scale renewable collaborations such as this, he added, will be critical in accelerating industrial decarbonisation across India.

Environmental and Economic Impact

Once fully operational, the hybrid renewable project is expected to reduce around 6.5 lakh metric tonnes of carbon emissions annually. This demonstrates the growing importance of hybrid renewable systems in meeting the energy requirements of power-intensive industrial sectors. In addition, the project promotes local workforce participation and supply-chain engagement, generating economic opportunities and supporting community development during construction and deployment.
