The Renewables business of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) bagged a major order to develop three Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects for a prominent client in the Middle East. The projects will collectively provide 6 GWh of energy storage capacity, supporting grid modernisation and accelerating the integration of renewable energy across the region.
Three BESS Projects to Strengthen Grid Stability
Under the order, L&T will develop three BESS facilities, each equipped with a four-hour battery energy storage system capable of storing and dispatching electricity as required. The scope also includes critical grid-interconnection infrastructure, including pooling substations and underground cables. Once operational, the projects will help improve grid stability while enabling greater integration of intermittent renewable energy sources.
Enabling Renewable Energy Integration
The BESS projects will allow surplus clean electricity generated during periods of lower demand to be stored and dispatched when electricity consumption rises. This energy-shifting capability can help balance fluctuations in renewable power generation and reduce pressure on the grid during peak-demand periods. L&T will deploy advanced liquid-cooling technology across the battery storage systems. The technology is designed to support higher power density, improve safety and extend the operational life of the systems.
L&T Strengthens Position in Energy Storage
The 6 GWh project portfolio marks a significant step in the Middle East’s transition towards modern, flexible and renewable-ready power infrastructure. For L&T, the order further strengthens its position as an EPC player in the rapidly expanding battery energy storage market. As countries across the region increase renewable power generation, large-scale energy storage is becoming increasingly important for maintaining grid reliability and managing supply-demand fluctuations.

The projects involve stringent requirements covering plant performance, safety, quality, workforce mobilisation and project timelines.
