Nouryon, a global player in specialty chemicals, successfully commissioned rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems at its two production facilities on Jurong Island, Singapore. Developed and installed by EDP Renewables APAC (EDP), this project represents the company’s first power purchase agreement (PPA) and onsite solar initiative in Singapore—an important step in Nouryon’s global sustainability roadmap.
250 kWp Solar Installations Support Decarbonization Goals
The newly installed solar PV systems have a combined capacity of 250 kilowatt peak (kWp). They will supply clean energy to Nouryon’s quaternary ammonium compound and alkoxylation production units. This move directly contributes to lowering the company’s Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The solar rollout follows the signing of a 14-year PPA with EDP in July 2024. This agreement underscores Nouryon’s long-term commitment to renewable energy and industrial decarbonization.
Driving Impact Through a Carbon Business Strategy
Eduardo Nardinelli, Senior Vice President, South America & Global Carbon Business Strategy at Nouryon, said, “Nouryon actively reduces greenhouse gas emissions across our value chain as a key pillar of our Carbon Business Strategy. This project marks another milestone in our global efforts to minimize environmental impact and support our customers in achieving their sustainability targets through lower-carbon products.”
The company’s Carbon Business Strategy is designed for long-term impact. It focuses on operational excellence and transitioning production sites to renewable energy. It also emphasizes fostering innovation and collaborating across the value chain to reduce both direct and indirect emissions.
Strengthening Regional Presence Through Clean Energy
Sobers Sethi, Senior Vice President, Emerging Markets and China at Nouryon, added, “This commissioning marks a milestone for our team in Singapore and the broader Asia-Pacific region. By harnessing renewable energy, we’re not only reinforcing our presence in this key market but also demonstrating our ongoing commitment to delivering sustainable solutions that benefit our customers and the environment alike.”
Supporting Global Climate Ambitions
The Singapore solar project is part of Nouryon’s broader climate commitment. This includes reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 40% by 2030, compared to 2019 levels. As per the press release, the company has also set a long-term aspiration of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
