Petronet LNG set to Prolong Gas Supply Agreement with Qatar

Petronet LNG is in the final stages of negotiating an extension for its long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) import contract with Qatar, aiming to prolong it beyond 2028. Currently, as per the existing contract, India’s foremost gas importer procures 7.5 million metric tons per annum (mtpa) of LNG from Qatar.

As reported by Offshore Technology, the company’s stakeholders, including Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and GAIL (India), have a combined supplementary agreement for 1 mtpa.

Indian energy firms had until the conclusion of 2023 to discuss the extension of these contracts with Qatar. Moreover, Petronet also secures 1.42 mtpa of LNG from ExxonMobil through a contract linked to the latter’s Gorgon Australia gas project.
