Va Tech Wabag bagged an order valued at $33.5 million from SEPCO III Electric Power Construction Corporation (SEPCO III) for the engineering and procurement (EP) of a 20 MLD industrial wastewater treatment plant (IWWTP) situated at Ras Tanura Refinery Complex in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Wabag will assume the role of process and technology contractor. The plant is being constructed by SEPCO III and developed by Miahona, a prominent PPP developer and operator of water and wastewater projects in Saudi Arabia, catering to Saudi Aramco, one of the largest integrated oil and gas companies globally.

The EP scope of work includes design, engineering, procurement, supply, and supervision of installation and commissioning of the IWWTP. It is designed to treat a diverse mix of effluents originating from the desalter effluent, tank farms, and other oily wastewater sumps within the refinery. The project is expected to be completed within a twenty-month timeframe.

As reported by Business Standard, the treatment process integrates biological treatment followed by filtration and reverse osmosis technologies to effectively treat the effluent, enabling its partial reuse within the refinery. The treatment scheme incorporates wet air oxidation for the treatment of spent caustic effluent.
