VA Tech Wabag Ltd. (Wabag) has signed an MoU with Peak Sustainability Ventures (PEAK) to set up 100 bio-CNG plants within sewage treatment facilities across India and other designated locations in the GCC, Africa, and Europe. The aim is to leverage the untapped potential of sewage treatment plants to produce bio-CNG, which can be utilised for transportation in trucks and heavy-duty vehicles, as well as for industrial purposes.

The initiative aims to diminish the dependency on fossil fuels, as stated by the water treatment company. As reported by The Hindu, the collaboration expects a business opportunity exceeding $200 million from the establishment of the bio-CNG plants, aiming to yield over 73 million kg of bio-CNG annually. Wabag is already generating more than 40 MWh of green energy through its existing installations.
