Cosmo First announced that Cosmo Plastech, specialising in rigid sheets, thermoforming, and injection moulding, has received the FSSC 22000 food safety certification. The certification is important for packaging materials that come into direct contact with food. FSSC 22000 incorporates essential requirements designed to assist companies in managing risks across various areas, including food fraud, food defence, food safety, quality culture, quality control, allergen management, and environmental monitoring programs.

The certification framework is built upon the established and globally recognised ISO 22000 standard, complemented by technical standards such as ISO TS 22002-1 for food manufacturing and ISO TS 22002-4 for packaging manufacturing. Additionally, it aligns with other standards like ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, incorporating the High-Level Structure of ISO.

As reported by THE PACKMAN, the Food Safety System Certification FSSC 22000 applies specifically to the scope of sheet extrusion, thermoforming, injection moulding, dry offset printing, and/or sleeving of PP and HIPS-based rigid plastic cups, lids, trays, and sheets designed for food packaging applications.
